What is a thermoplastic road marking machine?

A road marking machine is a machine specially used to mark different traffic lines on the road surfaces, and some can remark on old lines directly. It can screed, extrude or spray processed road paint onto the road surface to form tough coating lines. A hot melt kettle is used for continuously heating, melting, and stirring thermoplastic marking paints, preparing molten paints for the thermoplastic machine, especially for long-distance, road-line-marking work. The molten paint quality can affect the line quality greatly.

When applied as road surface markings, a hot melt kettle is used to heat it to 200 °C (392 °F) to melt the powder, after which it is sprayed on the road surface. The coating then becomes a hard, polymer line after cooling. This paint is a thick coating as is wear-resisting, bright, and reflective.  In order to increase the antiskid performance of the line, thermoplastic paint has added reflective glass beads. Thermoplastic can be used very effectively for large Anti-skid areas on roads and pedestrian walkways by adding glass beads. It can be produced in any color and is great for car parks, factory walkways and many other areas. It’s fast-drying and can be driven over after just a few minutes.

How does the thermoplastic road marking machine work?

(1)Measuring and lofting: Under the condition of clean road surface, do the dots according to the design drawings, and then choose white latex material to release the water line of the road edge line, and then carry out the marking work after the inspection is correct.

(2) Implementation of markings:

a: Put the hot-melt coating into the hot-melt kettle and heat it evenly to the appropriate temperature

b: On the side of the laid waterline, evenly apply the special undercoat agent for roads to make the road surface and the markings adhere better, and to prevent the evaporation of underground water to prevent the markings from falling off after the completion of the construction.

c: Put the hot-melt paint that has melted into a constructable state into the hand-push construction vehicle, and put an appropriate amount of glass beads in the vehicle bucket.

d: Adjust the flow rate, and start construction when the primer is dry to a suitable level. The construction is based on the waterline to ensure the construction quality.

e: The coating thickness of lane edge line, lane dividing line, guide arrow, road center line, warning marking line is 1.5-2.0mm, and the thickness of deceleration marking line is 5mm. The glass beads on the surface should be evenly spread, and the marking lines should have good visibility, consistent width, equal spacing, flush edges, good reflective effect, and strong combination with the road surface.

Construction skills: During the construction process, clean up while marking the construction, so that there is no throwing, sprinkling, dripping, leakage, pollution, and no oil and water leakage in the equipment. The construction team will clean up the road surface in the area at a certain distance from the marking line in time to keep the road surface clean and free from pollution or damage.

Types of road marking paint

There are many factors that have to be taken into account when choosing the right road paint for highway striping, parking lot striping and airport striping. Below are a list of conditions that are taken into account:

Thermoplastic marking paint is mainly composed by synthetic resin, glass beads, pigments, packing materials, additives, etc.Synthetic resin has thermoplasticity, make the hot melt coating fast-dry and strongly adhesive to the road surface.Additives in the paint can increase the plastic of the coating, and make it resistant to subsidence, pollution and color fading.

Pigments: the common colors of road lines are yellow and white. White pigments are mainly titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and lithopone, while yellow pigment is mainly heat-resistant yellow lead.Packing materials, as filling added into the paint, ensure mechanical strength, wear resistance, and color of paint coating. The particle size will affect liquidity and precipitation, as well as the surface processing.

Glass beads are added in order to improve the identification of lines at night, to improve the brightness and durability of the marking. Glass bead is colorless and transparent ball, has function of light refraction, focusing and directional reflection. Glass bead mixed in the coating or dispensed throughout the coating surface can reflect car light back to the driver’s eyes, thus greatly improving the marking visibility.

Types of Road Paint

Water Based Road Paints –  It is bright, highly visible and ideally used in parking lots and other light traffic areas. Glass beads can be added for extra reflectivity.

Latex Road Paints – Depending on the sealant type, latex road paint may be the ideal type of road paint to we use on for your project. It dries fast, in only 1 to 2 minutes, when heated. It is an ideal road paint that requires fast dry times and is less affected by humidity than other road paints. Glass beads can also be added to this type of road paint.

Acetone Road Paints – The acetone paint we use is a conventional dry road paint that is non-heat applied. Paints that have acetone as the main solvent are exempt under Federal law, and don’t contain VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). This road paint is best used on cured asphalt surfaces.

Thermoplastic Road Paints – Thermoplastic road paint has a unique property, in which it starts as a solid, turns into a liquid when heated and then turns into a solid again when it cools. Normally used as road paint for striping streets, it is ideal for newly paved roads. It is more time consuming to lay down, but is worth it, as it stands up to high traffic areas and weather conditions well.

Hot Tape – Easier to apply than thermoplastic, it has thermoplastic’s durability as a road paint. It is designed for high-traffic areas and has excellent skid resistance. It is applied at temperatures greater than freezing
